About me

My name is Alan Hammond. I recently graduated from Bradford University with a 2:1 in Cybernetics and Virtual Worlds. I am currently unemployed, developing a scalable constraint-solver-based analysis engine intended to discover certain security holes in binary computer software. It is hoped that this software, once complete, will enable me to earn a living in vulnerability research.

I also attempt to find time for lavalamp, my pet-project home automation software, which encompasses everything from the transistor-and-resistor level, through microcontroller programming, to managed .Net code.

I created this site mainly as a showcase of my achievements to prospective employers. It also serves as a 'turbo-blog' where I can keep records of achievements and progress for reference by myself and others, and make my code available for people that want it (eg, the wallboard code).

The site runs a CMS named Drupal, written in PHP. While I was tempted to write my own CMS to demonstrate my web-development abilities, I decided that my free time was better spent researching areas more relevant to my career interests.

My interests include robotics, image processing, digital electronics, FPGA noodling, low-level programming, microcontrollers, and networking (as in Ethernet). Professionally, I hold an expired Cisco CCNA certification, certifying my ability to design and implement an efficient network infrastructure of up to 100 nodes, and an expired RedHat Linux RHCE, certifying my skills in administering a network of RedHat Linux servers.

My work experience currently comprises of approximately a year of working as a network technician at a secondary school, using Cisco equipment and doing general maintenance (everything from laying cable, through server builds/maintainence, to classroom assistance), and a year of placement at a small software company in Manchester, mainly performing web-dev and other non-web-enabled C# development.

My CV is available on request, as are references.

The nice logo in the top-right was drawn by a friend of mine who goes by the alias 'Limb_Clock'. He can be reached at his deviantArt page.

I can be reached via gmail, where my username is 'randomdude'.
